7th-12th Grade School Counselor

Location: Fisher Jr/Sr High School
Reports To: Principal

Position Summary:
Fisher Jr/Sr High School is seeking a committed and collaborative School Counselor to support students in grades 6–12. This full-time position plays a vital role in academic achievement, career readiness, and social-emotional development. The ideal candidate will embrace a modern, student-centered approach to school counseling rooted in the three core domains of the ASCA National Model: academic, career, and social-emotional development.

Primary Responsibilities:

Academic Support

  • Guide students through course selection, academic planning, and addressing learning challenges

  • Provide short-term intervention and referral for learning challenges

  • Promote study skills, organization, and effective habits for success

  • Support students in their transition to higher levels of education (e.g., High School, College)

Career Readiness

  • Help students explore career interests and develop career goals

  • Inform students about postsecondary options including college, trades, military, and workforce opportunities 

  • Collaborate on implementing the Illinois PaCE Framework

  • Assist students with college applications, FAFSA, Scholarships, job searching and application processes.

Social Emotional Learning

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling

  • Address issues such as peer conflict, anxiety, grief, bullying, and relationship issues

  • Facilitate conflict resolution and promote positive social interactions

  • Refer to outside agencies or mental health providers when appropriate

  • Promote a safe and inclusive school environment

Collaboration and Systems Support

  • Partner with teachers, parents, administration and outside agencies to promote student success

  • Participate in IEP meetings and advocate for student needs

  • Facilitate 504 plans with families and staff

  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees

  • Create and maintain schedules 7th-12th grade student schedules 

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Master's degree in school counseling or a related field.

  • Licensure/Endorsement: Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Counselor Endorsement in Illinois

  • Experience: Experience working with middle/high school students is preferred.

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of college and career readiness frameworks, including the Illinois PaCE Framework.

Junior High School Paraprofessional

Location: Fisher Jr/Sr High School
Reports To: Principal

Job Summary:
The Junior High School Paraprofessional supports teachers and students by providing instructional assistance, classroom management, and individualized support to students with diverse learning needs. This role helps create a positive and productive learning environment while ensuring student success and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with classroom instruction, small group activities, and one-on-one student support.

  • Provide academic assistance to students, including special education students and those needing additional support.

  • Support student behavior management, implementing positive reinforcement and intervention strategies as needed.

  • Supervise students in various school settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and during arrival/dismissal.

  • Assist with lesson preparation, instructional materials, and classroom organization.

  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the teacher and support staff.

  • Provide support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans, following accommodations and modifications as directed.

  • Assist with administering assessments and tracking student performance.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and school-related matters.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by teachers or school administration.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification: One of the following:

    • Associate’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.

    • Completion of at least 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution.

    • High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro assessment.

    • High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT WorkKeys assessments:

      • Applied Mathematics/Applied Math: Score of 4 or higher.

      • Reading for Information/Workplace Documents: Score of 4 or higher
